Dance Policies and Procedures
REGISTRATION FEE- A non-refundable registration fee is required for each dance session (fall and summer). New students- $15.00 and current students- $5.00 for each class they take with a maximum of $15.00 per dancer and $25.00 per family with 2 dancers. Registration fees must be paid when the registration form is turned in.
ATTENDANCE- Good attendance is important as absences and tardiness can hold back an entire class. Please make every effort to have students at every class and pick up student promptly afterwards. Please call the studio if your dancer will miss class. It makes a difference in class preparation.
INSURANCE- The Joyce Matthies Dance Centre does not carry insurance for it's students. It is required that all dance students be covered by their own family policies and if an injury acurs it is understood that the student's own policy is the only source of reimbursement.
DROPPING A CLASS- There is a 2 month minimum for all lessons. A 1 month notice is required to drop a class. Withdrawals must be done in person at the office- not with a teacher- and a withdrawal form must be filled out and signed by a parent. No refunds on tuition will be made after January if a dancer quits.
CLASS OBSERVATIONS- Parents are not allowed in the studio during class time except during visitors weeks. Visitors weeks are held in November. If the parent is in the class room, it is distracting for the child as there are too many authority figures. The child will either lose class time looking for the parent's approval or spend the time acting out for the parent's attention. Parents may wait in the waiting room. If there is a problem in class, the parent will be notified.
CLASS ATTIRE- Dance clothes must be worn. No unattached skirts for students. No shorts. No costumes with sequins used for class attire. No shirts worn over leotards during class. Tights must be worn. In ballet classes, tights must be solid colored and cover the knees. Hair must be securely pulled back so neck and face may be seen by the teacher. No jewelry except small earrings may be worn in class.
PRIVATE LESSONS- 30 minute private lessons will be available for those dancers ages 12 and over who wish more help on their technique. The lessons are not to replace the regular classes but to provide extra help. They must be scheduled before regular classes begin for the day.
